Estate planning is an important and everlasting gift you can give your family. And setting up a smooth inheritance isn’t as hard as you might think.” -Suze Orman
While it is true that estate planning can be a very difficult process, the truth is, the attorney and his staff should be the ones who are taking on the most difficult portions of the process for you. At AVID Esq. Group, we have learned how to make estate planning as stress-free as we can for our clients. We hope that the hardest part for you, is to sit with the attorney and discuss the details of your family and the assets that you own. After that, all you have to do is kick back and wait for your signing day.
Yes, you will need to face the reality of some of life’s hardest questions – who will take care of your loved ones, your children, and your pets when you are no longer around or able to take care of them yourself? Does this actually mean that you won’t live forever? We call this “the hard part”. We know it’s not fun to think about the things that could go wrong, but it is necessary to make sure that you have a plan in place and that there are clear steps to follow to make sure your plan is utilized.
Do “The Hard Part” For The One’s You Love
We understand that most people will feel overwhelmed at the thought of having to deal with the planning of what will happen if they pass away or become incapacitated. We empathize with these feelings that you may have to face. Imagine, however, the pain and stress that your family may feel when they must have these tough conversations without you.
We understand that most people will feel overwhelmed at the thought of having to deal with the planning of what will happen if they pass away or become incapacitated. We empathize with these feelings that you may have to face. Imagine, however, the pain and stress that your family may feel when they must have these tough conversations without you.
Our staff recognizes how difficult this can be, and we are here to help take this burden from you by guiding you through these conversations so your family doesn’t have to. When you create an estate plan, you create a guide for your family so that they know what assets you own, what wishes you had, and the next steps to take. This gives them the time they need to grieve – to actually be able to grieve. This also helps them avoid having to deal with paperwork, court probate, expensive fees, and confusion.
There IS Enough Time in The Day
We get it, we are all extremely busy and sometimes it feels like there isn’t enough time in the day. Yet, investing just a few hours of your time now, could save your loved one’s months or even years of frustration down the road.
Every estate plan is customized to you and your family, which means the amount of time it takes from start to finish is unique to you – but again, most of this time is needed from the attorney, not you.
For many clients, a carefully considered and well-thought-out estate plan begins with a 2-hour meeting with the attorney – this can also be broken down into two 1-hour meetings if that fits your schedule better! The first hour is educational, where the attorney and client discuss options and the attorney can answer questions. The second hour is utilized to begin the designing of your estate plan.
That’s it! that’s about the amount of time the attorney will ask of you to help create your plan. Keep in mind, however, the attorney needs time to create your detailed and well-thought-out estate plan, and this can usually take a couple of weeks depending on the complexity of your plan. So, relax while you wait for your signing ceremony – which will only take an hour to complete.
Remember, an estate plan is the work of a lifetime, and the time you take to create it is valuable.
Not All Estate Planning Processes Are the Same
Have you heard of someone who has worked with an attorney to create an estate plan and left the process feeling exhausted and overcome?
It is unfortunate, but some people have had unpleasant experiences when creating an estate plan, leaving them with an overall feeling of stress. This can often prevent people from beginning their own estate plan.
At AVID Esq. Group, our knowledgeable and experienced attorneys help our clients avoid leaving our office with this kind of experience by getting to know you as a person and as a family rather than as a template. As soon as you step into our office, we will lead the way with what you can do based on your unique situation and how we can create the plan you want, answering every question you have along the way.
In hopes to encourage you to get to know our attorneys and how our process works, we offer a free estate planning consultation to any person who is interested in creating their estate plan or who has questions about their options.
The estate planning process can be stress-free when you work with an experienced attorney who gets to know you. The sooner you can get your estate plan in place, the sooner you will be able to relax, knowing that the process was easier than you had expected, and knowing that your loved ones are taken care of.
